John Congleton and Jason Garner of The Paper Chase have teamed up with some good friends to form a new band called The Nighty Nite. Joining them are members of Wires Under Tension (Chris Tignor), Shearwater (Kevin Schneider), and the Hospital Ships (Jordan Geiger). The band's debut EP Dimples is set for release on June 21st via Graveface and sounds like the soundtrack to a tragic black comedy, as if Woody Allen made a horror movie about a punk rock band.
The four songs on The Nighty Nite's Dimples EP echo and marry John Cale's sardonic mix of pop/orchestra/skronk and the atmospheric doom of late-period Scott Walker. "Some people have told me it's the darkest thing I've ever done", says Congleton. "I don't know if I agree but so be it if so."
Congleton's lyrics on the EP are sharpened to an existential point, vacillating cleverly between tragedy and comedy, as in "Dimes In Their Dimples", when the band follows his line, "God, you gave them lips but they still speak of nothing less than the odious things, and all that portly cargo they're still shlepping," with a truly terrifying musical rise and crescendo in noise.... click here for more info on this release

Last summer when BMSR's label Graveface Records was by hit by flood waters, all of the available Dandelion Gum stock was damaged, making the album out of print. On June 7th, 2011, the album will receive a deluxe reissue on picture disc, cassette and compact disc. The original album will be expanded by 14 songs that were recorded during the same time period as Dandelion Gum, 5 of which have never been heard before. Other tracks included come from the out of print Drippers EP and from the 2006 split with The Octopus Project The House Of Apples and Eyeballs (sans OP's contributions). The CD contains the extra flavor tracks whereas the LP & Cassette come with a download code for the bonus tracks.
Black Moth has been on the back burner for the past few years so its members could focus on other projects: Tobacco with Maniac Meat, Seven Fields of Aphelion with Periphery and Ryan Graveface with his band DREAMEND. GRAVE058 THE APPLESEED CAST : Middle States

Middle States seems an appropriate title for the band’s latest release. It could be read as signifying the band’s home town of Lawrence, Kansas (a “middle” state if there ever was one), the EP’s place in the trajectory of the band’s career, a piece that alludes to its progress between its gripping seventh album, Sagargatha (2009) and it’s already eagerly-anticipated eighth record (due out on Graveface in early 2012). Or, as the title track suggests, the middle stages and transitional periods of life. Heard through the lush, brightly textured harmonies led by singer and co-founder Chris Crisci, change is a pretty alright thing.
For the Middle States EP, The Appleseed Cast sequestered itself in its own recording “compound,” having fallen in love with the freedom of crafting records without the time and budget constraints of a traditional studio during home sessions for Sagarmatha. The relaxed pace and familiar setting has served the band well. Opening the EP is cinematic rocker “End Frigid Constellations,” a song that evokes so many feelings and imagery it seems epic despite its relative shortness. The finale, “Three Rivers,” contains many of the EPs most majestic moments and showcasing the band’s live prowess and tight musicianship. The song marks the band’s first completely improvised release, but with any luck it won’t be the last.
Middle States gives insight into a band that is constantly reinventing itself and growing stronger with each passing year. If the EP is a teaser of things yet to come, we can only say it’s working brilliantly.. click here for more info on this release

This is available in two formats. The cd version which comes in a jewel that includes 14 multiple exposure photograph panels so you can create your own cover! It also has rad translucent stickers on the front and back. CD is a limited pressing of 1500 copies. The LP version comes in a PVC (w/ flap) bag (standard for a picture disc usually) with silver printing on the front and back. Inside is a 11.5x11.5 thick cardstock cover/backcover card w/ a download code. First pressing was on ultra clear vinyl and was 500 copies. Second and current pressing is on HIGHLIGHTER YELLOW in ULTRA CLEAR (Color In Color) vinyl and is also a pressing of 500.
