01.30.10: Just wanted to say thanks to those that have pre-ordered the new albums. Your support means a great deal to us. A few more copies of the Seven Fields pre-order and a few dozen copies of the Appleseed hand-numbered copies are available still. In regards to our voicemail service (951.262.3506), a voicemail today has inspired me to request a different type of voicemail for the next month or so. Please leave us deep dark secrets you have. Things you're ashamed of. That sort of thing. Please be sincere but don't leave your name or anything (obviously). Pagan reconciliation!! Or not. Peace!
01.28.10: Happy circus week! I just put the debut from The Seven Fields of Aphelion and the Low Level Owl LPs up for pre-order in the store (catalogue page). Go there to read about them in detail. Thanks a ton!!
01.20.10: Happy death week! I just wanted to announce that after 5 years the second Dreamend LP, Maybe We're Making God Sad and Lonely, is finally available on vinyl and is shipping immediately. Please proceed to the catalogue page for more info and to order. Thanks for your support! Here's a pic of the vinyl itself:

01.08.10: Just a quick note. I think I've finally found a use for the most dreadful social networking site-Twitter. We'll see how long this lasts but you can find us here. I generally neglect to give thanks and post the kind things people write about our bands so that will become my forum to do so. If you are a Twitter-er, look us up. Just don't expect updates on what we're eating or anything witty. Yack! (the preceding comments were intentionally steeped in bitterness. forgive us as we're not adapting to social networking very well!)
------------------------------------------
01.05.10: Yo! Gosh darn it's chilly in this town. Happy New Year and all that jazz to you and yours. 2009 absolutely wrecked me in every way possible so be prepared for an interesting 2010 over here at Graveface. I updated the Graveface voicemail service just now so please give it a call and check out the new tune.
Also, if you've ever wanted to get a bunch of free shit from Graveface, now you can. I'm finally starting up a street team after 7 years of procrastination. If we can get this off the ground properly, as a member you'll receive anything from free concert tickets to promo only posters/cds to exclusive mp3s etc. The only thing we'll ask of you is to devote very little time a month to promote us better than we ever could. Honesty can hurt and I can honestly say I suck at any sort of self-promotion.
So if this sounds interesting to you in any way, go here to sign up. Thanks for your support!

12.22.09: Wow, it's creepy outside in Chicago right now. Perhaps it's all the murders I've been reading about as of late. At any rate, we are proud to announce the new Monster Movie album, Everyone is a Ghost. This will be released on all formats on April 6th. We're very excited by this record and hope you will be as well. Here's the first single for the album, Bored Beyond Oblivion. Grab it fo free! Read below for the one sheet:
MONSTER MOVIE- “Everyone is a Ghost”
Everyone is a Ghost is the latest downer-pop showcase from Monster Movie, the London-based duo of Christian Savill (Slowdive) and Sean Hewson. 2010 marks the pair’s twentieth anniversary of working together and tenth anniversary of recording and performing as Monster Movie. Savill and Hewson have been slowly developing their synth-kissed sound, weaving it through tales of birth, death, marriage, divorce and costly changes of address.
The duo considers Everyone is a Ghost to be their most consistent album to date, having found that their songwriting styles have become more similar over the years. This release distills the expansive shoegazing bliss-wall of Slowdive into intensely catchy pop songs played out on guitar, bass, piano, ukulele, percussion and a range of synthesizers. Everyone is a Ghost brings to mind the experimental pop atmospherics of David Bowie’s Low, the male/female vocal harmonics of My Bloody Valentine and Grandaddy’s electronica-laced sunny pop nostalgia.
Everyone is a Ghost is comprised of 13 songs (10 for the CD, 2 bonus tracks for vinyl and 1 for download) written and recorded in six cities across the U.S. and U.K. Savill and Hewson were particularly excited by the collaborative process of making the album, which features guest appearances from Ryan Graveface (Dreamend, Black Moth Super Rainbow), Sophie Pittaway, Rachel Staggs (Experimental Aircraft) and artwork from Will Schaff, who’s set ink to paper for Godspeed! You Black Emperor, Okkervil River, Songs: Ohia, Kid Dakota and more.
Monster Movie’s Everyone Is A Ghost will be released on April 6th on Graveface Records, packaged in a Stoughton “Old Style” gatefold jacket for both the LP and CD. The CD s limited to 2,000 copies, and the first press of the LP is 500 copies.

12.14.09: Thanks for the recent wave of voicemails I've been getting ((951) 262-3506)! I've decided on using one of your messages at the end of an upcoming Dreamend tune. Keep em coming. The weirder the better. I've been looking at these end of the year lists thinking that most folks are not individuals (not you reading of course!). What's up with that? How can you truly be a unique person when every aspect of what you like is identical to what every reviewer likes? Or, what most people like to make it really general. Then again, is it good to be someone like me who couldn't be more disconnected and therefore feels incredibly strange in every circumstance?? Think about these things whilst watching The Nanny sometime. It'll make your head explode. In January we'll start posting pre-orders for the Feb releases. Here's an updated release schedule for the next few months:
2.16.10 - The Seven Fields of Aphelion "Periphery" CD/LP/Digital
2.16.10 - BMSR "Eating Us" 2xlp version and single LP version
3.16.10 - The Appleseed Cast "Low Level Owl" 3XLP
4.6.10 - Monster Movie "Everyone is a Ghost" CD/LP/Digital
4.6.10 - Dreamend "Maybe we're Making God Sad and Lonely" LP (first time available on LP; first pressing is 250; only available here and on tour)

12.04.09: Hello again. Two updates in a few days is just plain unhealthy. I'm writing for a few reasons. One, not enough people have been leaving our new voicemail service messages! I thought people would dig this idea but perhaps it's too 10 years ago? I might have to bail on it. Two, we're going to bring back the Low Level Owl vinyl from The Appleseed Cast. We've inked a deal and will be keeping it in print for forever now (finally!). On the LLO news front, Appleseed Cast will be bringing the tour to the east coast for a few weeks in April. Keep your eyes peeled here for the dates later on. We didn't want you folks to feel slighted ;). Thanks for reading.
------------------------------------------
12.01.09: Happy Holidays folks. These times couldn't be more depressing and thought provoking. To celebrate the season of extreme melodrama and mourning, we now have a telephone answering service for our customers/fans/haters. If you dial (951) 262-3506, you'll hear two minutes of an upcoming album, song, remix, story, etc. Something currently unreleased. This will be switched out every month. It's a work in progress as I'll be trying to find a way to make it sound better and better. At the end of the song, you'll hear a beep. We are requesting you leave us a message in the form of a ghost/scary story, local haunt, odd fact etc. I want to use these stories for something later on so you must be fine with this before leave it. I believe you can talk endlessly on this thing so there's no time limit. Just make sure your message kicks ass. Also, please be incredibly specific if the location of your story is a place that can be visited. Thanks kindly for your continued support!

11.23.09: Howdy! We've got some big news today for our wee label. One of my favorite bands of all time, The Appleseed Cast, has signed to Graveface! To celebrate, Appleseed will be playing their classic albums Low Level Owl 1 & 2 in their entirety in Feb & March. Read below for the full press release:
The Appleseed Cast has signed to the Chicago independent label Graveface Records, home to Black Moth Super Rainbow and Monster Movie, and many more.
Beginning on February 24th 2010, in Norman, OK, The Appleseed Cast will embark a 26 date tour, playing their two classic albums, Low Level Owl 1 and 2 back-to-back, each in its entirety. The band will have a new live album available for sale on this tour, their first for the imprint Graveface.
The Appleseed Cast’s sprawling two-disc masterpiece Low Level Owl 1 and 2 released in 2001 found a band shedding its restraints, bucking genre qualifiers and offering up something newly experimental, truly unique and utterly epic. There was little in the band’s spiky and emotional 1998 debut The End of the Ring Wars to indicate what was to come, and just barely a whiff of the ambient soundscapes, and seemingly insurmountable slow-building waves of sound-that-would-be on its 2000 follow-up Mare Vitalis. But since that discernable shift in mood and scope, The Appleseed Cast has continued to nurture and cultivate what was planted back in 2001 with each of their three subsequent releases - Two Conversations, Peregrine and Sagarmatha.
Through the years, The Appleseed Cast has shape-shifted itself as slowly and naturally as a sand dune to become one of the most staid and sonically rewarding bands on the circuit today, an achievement that has earned them throngs of fans the world over. But certainly, the band who have drawn deserved comparisons to such stalwarts as Mogwai, Godspeed You Black Emperor, Spiritualized and Radiohead, began their ever-unpredictable journey into the musical wilds with the astounding wailing crescendos, heartbreaking murmuring guitar tones and gentle ambient rustlings of Low Level Owl, which will continue to stand as one of the cornerstones of the genre, acting as foundation for all the bricks that follow.

Label mates Dreamend round out the bill, opening all of the shows on this tour. Dreamend features Ryan Graveface, the owner of the Graveface label and member of Black Moth Super Rainbow. Dreamend's latest album Long Forgotten Friend is out now on Graveface. Both The Appleseed Cast and Dreamend will have new full-length releases out via Graveface in late 2010.
10.20.09: Happy Halloween time all! Today is another lovely release day for our little label. You can go pick up the debut from The Marshmallow Ghosts on 7 inch vinyl at your local indie shop or favorite digital retailer. Also available today is the classic album Two Conversations from The Appleseed Cast on vinyl for the first time. If your local shop doesn't currently carry our stuff, please ask them to. Thanks for your continued support!
9.27.09:
8.25.09: Yo! Hope everyone has had a wonderful summer. I'm anxiously awaiting this thing we call autumn but dreading this thing we call a Chicago winter. In the world of Graveface, we've finally had a chance to pick the winners for the BMSR Eating Us contest! The winners are first place (Phil Pompa), second place (Monika Julien) and last but not least, third place (Jeff Sawyer). Thanks to everyone who entered! Also, thanks to everyone who picked up the new Toman record. It's one of my favorite records in a long time and I'm glad to see people are digging it. Lastly, we'll be putting some records up for pre-order in the next 2-3 weeks. Pre-orders will be for The Appleseed Cast's Two Conversations LP and The Marshmallow Ghosts s/t debut Halloween 7 inch. The Ghosts are the new Graveface house band and this time around have members of BMSR, Dreamend, The Casket Girls and Appleseed Cast. More info on that very soon. Skanks for reading!
7.20.09: Hi! Thanks to those that stopped by the Pitchfork Festival this past weekend. It was nice meeting ya'll. Just a note that any orders placed after noon CST on July 22nd will be shipped on August 6th as BMSR is hitting the east coast then. Thanks for your support!
7.16.09: Good news! The Toman pre-orders started to ship today. Enjoy em! The record is fucking brilliant. Also, Graveface will have a booth at the Pitchfork Festival this weekend. If you're coming you should stop by, say hi, and pick up a download card for our 2009 sampler. We'll also have some out of print stuff from our catalogue for super-cheap. Cheers.
7.6.09: Just a note that I put up the new Toman LP for pre-order in the shop/catalogue. It's the first album we've elected to bypass the compact disc for. Figured we'd just stick to digital download and vinyl for it. In other news, anyone that ordered the hairy copy of the latest from BMSR got an entry form for a contest. If you've signed up to be a part of this contest we'll be doing the drawing in mid-August. The reason I'm waiting is that some of the stands, which are also prizes, are still being used in select record stores. Thanks a ton to college radio for playing the shit out of the new BMSR album. You know who you are and we really appreciate it. Check out BMSR on the upcoming east coast leg if you're around. See you on the road!
6.9.09: Thanks a ton for those who came out to the first leg of BMSR shows over the past few weeks. They went incredibly well. Things are relatively back to normal here so all orders placed during that time have shipped.
5.17.09: Any orders placed after 9am CST tomorrow morning (5.18.09) will not be shipped until June 8th. I'll be on tour with BMSR till then. Come say hi and thanks for your support!!
5.07.09: Greetz! For those not on the Eating Us Reserve List, I wanted to inform you the new masterpiece from BMSR is up for pre-order on the catalog page. There are still some of the special pre-order version available. Those are limited to 100 and come with a 3x3 sticker set of Eating Us art (a set is 4 stickers), a 2 1/4" button with the BMSR logo and the hairy CD bag as well as candy and toys. Thanks everyone for your support!
5.2.09: Yo! Pre-orders for the new and fantastic mini lp from The Lava Children just went up. All orderers get the album immediately in mp3 format and get other free shit. Proceed to the catalogue page for more info! Thanks kindly for your support.
4.16.09: If you'd like to sign up to reserve a copy of the limited, hairy edition of BMSR's new masterpiece, 'Eating Us', please go here to do so. Signing up guarantees you the ability to pre-order/receive the limited version. This pre-order will occur in early May. You can also download the first single at that link. Also, we are now on the 3rd pressing of Dandelion Gum. They no longer come with a scratch n sniff but do come in white vinyl with a dark pink splatter. You can pick one up on the catalogue page. Also note that this Sat is Record Store Day and we are participating for the first time this year. We have an exclusive, RSD only BMSR 7 inch coming that day. Finally, Graveface will have a table at this years CHIRP record fair this Sat and Sun. Go here for the deets. Come out and say hello. We rarely show our hideous faces out in public so it's a chance for you to vomit at the site of us. Thanks for your support!
3.2.09: After years of the same catalogue/store page, I've finally changed things around. Surely I've gone and fucked a bunch of things up but most prices are cheaper AND you get the album you just purchased emailed to you for free regardless of the format (doesn't apply to things I didn't release digitally). The best part is it's automated! Please email me if things look or act wonky. Consider it a work in progress for the next month or so. Thanks for reading!
2.28.09: New tour dates added for many Graveface bands! Check em. Also, we made a wee BMSR messageboard for those who want to discuss all things Madballs and mini-golf related. Be well!
2.18.09: Boy I'm sleepy. We've been assembling the new Appleseed record for the past 12 hours and I'm tired. That being said, they should be shipping throughout the day tomorrow. One random lucky soul will receive test pressings thrown in and many of you will receive what appear to be coasters (really, they're just the middles of the records cut out). As of 3 minutes ago, we've sold out of the hand-numbered copies. That and through our wonderful distributor (Chicago Independent) we're down to the last 200 or so of the first pressing-the maroon colored version. These should be showing up at your local record stores next Tuesday for you non-Paypalers. Thanks for your continued interest!
2.13.09: Friday the 13th. Fuck yeah. Mr. Voorhees and I have a date in a few hours. In the meantime I wanted to mention that the new vinyl from The Appleseed Cast is up for pre-order on the catalogue page. We have about 20 copies or so left that are hand-numbered. These bad-boys will be shipping to both stores and mail-order customers on Tuesday the 17th. The next two releases after that will be BMSR's Eating Us and The Lava Children's self titled mini-lp which will be in stores May 26th. Thanks for your support!!
1.13.09: 2009! Gross. Only a few more years before the end of the world as we know it. Sagarmatha pre-orders go up in 2 weeks and the cover art can be seen here for the curious. Also, I made a video of Seven Fields and I assembling the new Dreamend pop-up album. Here it is:
Be safe out there and thanks for your continued support!!
12.23.08: Greetz! Just in time for Christmas we got the best review ever (keep in mind we didn't request such a thing) from some amazingly hateful people. You can read it below or go here. I wonder what it feels like to have so much hate built up inside of you. Merry Christmas!!
"I fucking hate indie rock. Hate hate hate hate hate it. And Brickhouse will be reported to federal authorities for sending this piece of garbage through the mail because I believe it to be highly more dangerous than mailing anthrax.
The album is a compilation of bands from indie label Graveface Records. They all play distinctly different styles of indie, by which I mean they all have unique ways of making dudes giving it up the butt to other dudes, sound different. I barely made it through this album. I am terrified that these bands are allowed to make whole albums. Fuck these bands and fuck stupid, shitty, pretentious artsy indie rock. If you like indie, you might like this. I could really care less and want to pour acid in my ears right now." DJ Metal Mouth
12.17.08: Greetings and Happy Holidays everyone. Two things. We got a few more copies of the Drippers 10 inch in and are giving our US customers a free upgrade to priority mail on all orders to hopefully receive everything pre-XMAS. Thanks for your support this year. We have a great deal in store for 09. Check out a new Appleseed Cast track here. Thanks to Stereogum for hosting it. Have a fantasic few weeks.
12.10.08: Just so everyone who ordered the BMSR 10 inch is aware, all copies were shipped off Sunday night at the 24 hour post office here in Chicago. I would've sent them on the 3rd but I've gone and broken several ribs somehow so getting around isn't the easiest! Thanks for your patience and I hope everyone is pleased with the end result. In other news, we're releasing the new Appleseed Cast album, Sagarmatha, on 2xlp Feb 17th. For me, this is probably their best album to date. It is really fucking epic. If you want priority shipping for any Xmas orders, email me post order. Thanks for your support!!
12.03.08: Sweet news folks! The Drippers vinyl has arrived and looks/sounds brilliant!! All the pre-orders will be shipped today and tomorrow. There are many things in store for 09 and we'll be announcing them very soon. Till then, be safe out there.
11.18.08: Hello again. I have some bad news. The BMSR lps still haven't arrived!! I don't know if they are lost in the mail or what but let me tell you, we'll figure this nonsense out. I hope you'll all receive them by Dec 1st but who the hell knows at this point. Frustration has occured. On a good note, all the Dreamend records have shipped out this week! I really hope you enjoy them as they take over 30 minutes each to make. I will upload a video here soon to show you the process. Thanks again for your continued support!
11.7.08: Yo! Quick update on the pre-ordered items. The Dreamend 2xlp will start shipping out Monday. We cannot seem to find a way to speed up production on them and they still are taking 30 minutes per copy to assemble. The Black Moth 10 inch is shipping to us on Tuesday and hopefully will be in Chicago by the end of the week. Then I'll assemble and ship those bad boys out as well. Thanks kindly!!
10.21.08: Hello again! Three updates in one month!! Shocking. I have some bad news to report. Both the BMSR "Drippers" 10inch and the Dreamend "The Long Forgotten Friend" double 12 inch will be delayed a bit. We've gotten word from the two manufacturers respectively that due to an increase in vinyl production around the globe, they cannot meet their ship dates. I figure this must be true as it's coming from two different vinyl companies. So, the street date for stores is now November 25th for the both of them. I will more than likely have both to ship to you brilliantly patient pre-orderers by the first week of November. So they should arrive by the second week. Please check this space and I will update everytime I receive an update. As a thanks and an I'm sorry, I'll be emailing all the pre-orderers the mp3s of the album so you can enjoy it now and later. Thanks again for your continued support and remember today is the release date for the amazing new album from Hospital Ships. Please go to your local indie store and pick it up! Don't forget to download our Halloween podcast right below...
10.16.08: Yo! Thanks to all the have pre-ordered the Dreamend and Hospital Ships records. We are very excited by the reactions we're getting. The cd versions have all shipped. I put together a wee podcast as I'm obsessed with Halloween. It is Itunes enhanced. Please feel free to download it below. The tracklisting is a surprise.
10.7.08: Hello! Is it me you're looking for? We've got some rad pre-orders up on the site and another coming next week. Hospital Ships and Dreamend today and BMSR next week. Peruse the site to see just how special these things are. Mp3s have been posted for the new records. If you're going to be in Chicago on November 1st, please consider attending the Graveface Records Halloween/Day of the Dead showcase @ The Abbey Pub. BMSR, Dreamend, and Hospital Ships will all be playing cd release sets and Kid Dakota will be making their debut as a 5 piece in Chicago. Costumes are encouraged. We are integrating mp3 purchase options slowly so we're not left behind in the middle ages. Lastly, I get many emails regarding The Appleseed Cast's "Two Conversations' lp that I announced a year ago. I'm still waiting for the art to be uncovered and a few other treats. I promise it will be out sometime in 09 along with the 2xlp of their new record. Thanks so much for the support in these hard times!
07.17.08: Holy fuck! It's summer. I'm not sure how that happened so quickly. I hope you are all digging the weather wherever you are. This weekend we'll be attending the Pitchfork Music Festival for the first time. By attending I mean we'll have a table and will pawning a ton of records. Hopefully our vinyl will not melt as it is supposed to be 90 outside. Please stop by the booth, say hi, and grab some free goodies. In release news, we are proud to announce the debut album from the amazing Jordan Geiger (Minus Story, Shearwater) in the form of Hospital Ships. The Hospital Ships debut record is called Oh, Ramona and will hit stores on Oct 21st. You can read more about HS on their band page. Also coming in October is the 3rd full length from Dreamend. That hits the stores on the 28th and if you buy the vinyl version, it comes with a handmade pop-up gatefold by William Schaff. And the last release of the year is by Black Moth Super Rainbow. It's called Drippers and contains a bunch of compilation tracks and such. It's totally rad and will come as a cd and a 10inch lp, both with scratch and sniff front cover. November 4th is the release date for that bad boy. All 3 of these releases will be available for pre-order in August on this site. Stay tuned! Thanks for reading and enjoy life!
03.28.08: Hi folks! All right. I just wanted to say I'm really sorry for the lack of communication on all fronts. You know when everything goes wrong at the same time? That's how the past few weeks have been. Email account(s) not working properly, problems with paypal, powermac will not turn on, etc. Phew! That being said, I'm so very happy to say that all orders have been shipped off finally. There were incredible delays with the Daturah vinyl and I just got my 200 copies yesterday after placing the order months ago. They look and sound rad though! Plus I still have several coloured copies left if anyone wants em. Many thanks to Pitchforkmedia.com for writing about the Black Moth Super Rainbow vinyl that came out on March 11th. Because of them I have been to the post office more than I've ever been in my life. There are about 50 copies of the coloured left. Please be patient with me! I am but one man with many-a-customer and 38 handmade releases. When I get some breathing room, I'm going to do the drawing for the test pressings. All Daturah, BMSR, and Kid Dakota lp orders will be in the running for them. Hoot! Hopefully I'll see you Chicago folks at the Black Moth show tomorrow. I'll be the guy passing out pinatas to be destroyed and candy to be devoured. Thanks for your support!!
03.06.08: Wanted to mention that Graveface Records will be out on our little SXSW tour from 3/7-3/18 during which, orders will not ship. Orders will go out on the 19th that are placed during that time. All preorders are shipping tomorrow except for the Daturah lps which should arrive in Chicago from the pressing plant during tour. They will go out on the 19th. Thanks kindly for your support and I hope some of you choose to check out our showcase on March 15th @ The Thirsty Nickel in Austin. The final lineup is Black Moth Super Rainbow, Kid Dakota, Laura Gibson, Dreamend, Experimental Aircraft, and Power Pill Fist. Fucking radical! Cheers all.
