the lava children

Lava Children have been cultivating a composite of psychedelia and dusty dream-rock since their founding in
an Altadena, California garage. Following the release of their self-titled mini-lp, Lava Children have garnered praise
from PopMatters, Tiny Mix Tapes and NPR, as well as acclaim from their label mates, Black Moth Super Rainbow.
Their new self-titled full length, to be released on Graveface Records on May 22nd, builds on the foundation
already established by their 2009 mini-lp. It puts forth a matured aesthetic that has been tempered through many
months of audio experimentation. The Tulsa-based band, comprised of guitarist/vocalist Sherri West, guitarists Taylor Clark and Ben Kindell and drummer Peter Tomshany, draws on the nostalgic sounds of cave rock and the acid-drenched psychedelia of the 60s. Yet, their sound is full of unusual, personal and confusingly beautiful stylings that refuse to let the band be pigeonholed as mere throwback rock. The Lava Children's self-titled full length is a beautiful and mysterious auditory fantasy. The opener "Mothra” is a fogveiled incantation, and by “Revellers” we are fully involved in a ritual. In “Cave” we find ourselves dancing deep in the Earth's core. The album ends in a warm afterglow with “Blue Smoke” and “Wormhole.” The compact disc comes packaged in a recycled gatefold sleeve and the retail vinyl color is emerald green with a silver haze.
